Privacy Policy
The Wyoming Historical Society respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit this website, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Who We Are
This website is operated by the Wyoming Historical Society ("the Society," "we," "us" or "our"), a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of Wyoming. This policy applies to information collected through this website. It does not apply to other websites we link to, or to information collected offline.
Information We Collect
Information you give us. We collect the information you choose to provide when you contact us, volunteer, share a story, submit a nomination or application, join as a member, make a donation, register for an event or sign up for updates. This usually includes your name and email address, and may include your phone number, mailing address, affiliation and the contents of your message or submission.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our web server and hosting provider record basic technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type, device type, the pages you view, the date and time of your visit and the page that referred you. We use this information to keep the site running, secure and performing well.
How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to:
- respond to your questions and requests;
- process memberships, donations, purchases and event registrations;
- review nominations, grant applications and other submissions;
- publish stories or materials you have submitted for publication;
- send newsletters and other communications you have asked to receive;
- maintain, protect and improve the website;
- prevent spam, fraud and abuse; and
- meet our legal and recordkeeping obligations.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. This site uses only a small number of cookies needed for it to work properly, such as those that keep site administrators signed in or remember basic preferences. We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not track visitors across other websites. Third-party services embedded in or linked from the site may set their own cookies under their own policies. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings, though some features may not work as expected if you do.
Spam and Security Protection
To protect our forms from spam and automated abuse, we use security services that may process your IP address, browser information and the contents of a submission to determine whether it is legitimate. These services are used only for that purpose.
Third-Party Services
Some features of this site are provided by outside services, including payment and donation processors, our online store, event ticketing, online forms and social media platforms. When you use one of these services, the information you provide is collected by that provider and handled under its own privacy policy. Payment card details are processed by our payment providers; the Society does not receive or store full card numbers.
How We Share Information
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We share it only:
- with service providers who help us operate the site and our programs, and only as needed for them to do so;
- with Society staff, officers, trustees and committee volunteers who need it to carry out the work you have asked us to do, such as reviewing a nomination;
- when you have given us permission, for example by submitting a story for publication; or
- when required by law, or to protect the rights, safety or property of the Society or others.
How Long We Keep Information
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected, or as required for our legal, financial and archival recordkeeping. Records of donations and memberships may be kept for the period required by law. Materials you submit for publication or for our historical collections may be kept permanently as part of the historical record.
How We Protect Information
We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards to protect the information we hold, including encrypted connections to this site. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your Choices
You may unsubscribe from our emails at any time by using the link in any message or by contacting us. You may also ask us to tell you what personal information we hold about you, to correct it or to delete it, subject to any records we are required to keep. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law. To make a request, contact us using the details below.
Children's Privacy
This website is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

This site links to websites operated by others, including partner archives, museums and social media services. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices, and we encourage you to read their policies.
